It’s no secret that most people hate getting up early. In fact, I would say it is one of the most hated things on the planet. (I’m definitely speaking for myself on this one). But what if I told you that there were some tips and tricks that could actually help you wake up earlier? Would you be interested? Well, that’s what we’re going to talk about in this blog post. We’ll discuss 7 tips that will help you get up and out of bed without feeling like you’re dragging yourself through mud. So whether you’re trying to get more sleep or simply want to start your day off on the right foot, these tips will help!
#1 Get enough sleep at night… like actually!
I know, I know. This one is easier said than done. But it’s important to get a good night’s sleep if you want to wake up feeling rested and refreshed in the morning. If you’re having trouble sleeping, there are a few things you can try. First, cut down on caffeine and alcohol before bed. These substances can make it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night. Second, establish a bedtime routine that includes winding down for 30 minutes before going to sleep. This means no screens! Put away your phone, turn off the TV, and read a book or take a bath instead. This will help signal to your body that it’s time to sleep. Finally, make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet, and cool. Creating a peaceful environment will help you fall asleep and stay asleep.
#2 Pre-make your coffee at night.
This one is for all the coffee lovers out there! If the thought of getting up early is enough to make you want to hit snooze, pre-making your coffee might be just what you need. Brewing a pot before bed means that you’ll wake up to the smell of fresh coffee in the morning, making it that much easier to get out of bed.
#3 Re-evaluate your morning routine.
If you’re finding it difficult to wake up in the morning, take a look at your morning routine and see if there’s anything you can change. Maybe you’re spending too much time scrolling through social media before getting out of bed or maybe you rush through the whole morning and never get to truly enjoy your morning time. Whatever it is, make a change and see if it makes a difference. Maybe you ake it a point to not look at your phone for the first 30 minutes of waking up. Maybe you set time aside to cook breakfast, or even grab something from a nearby cafe. Sometimes all it takes is a small adjustment to help you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start the day.
#4 Set multiple alarms.
This one might not be popular, but if you need the extra help, ya need it! I’m a firm believer in setting multiple alarms in the morning. I have my main alarm, which is usually set for 30 minutes before I need to get up, and then a few backup alarms that go off at various intervals until I finally wake up. This may seem excessive, but it’s what works for me and helps me get out of bed on time. If you’re struggling to wake up, try setting a few alarms and see if it makes a difference.
There are a few reasons why I think multiple alarms are the way to go. First, it’s a numbers game. The more alarms you have set, the higher the likelihood that one of them will actually wake you up. Second, having multiple alarms gives you a buffer in case you hit snooze on the first one (or two… or three). And finally, having multiple alarms means that even if you do sleep through all of them, you’re still probably getting up earlier than you would’ve without any alarms at all!
#5 Get moving!
Whether you’re a full-on gym goer or simply do a few stretches in the morning, getting up and moving is a sure fire way to wake up. One of the most common benefits of exercise is increased energy levels. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins, which have been shown to boost energy levels and improve mood. In fact, one study showed that people who exercised for just 20 minutes per day reported feeling more energetic than those who didn’t exercise at all.
In addition to giving you an energy boost, exercise also helps wake up your body and mind. When you move your body, it increases blood flow and oxygen to your brain, which can help you feel more alert and focused. And unlike caffeine, which can lead to jitters and an anxious feeling, exercises provide sustained energy throughout the day.
So even if you’re not a morning person, a little bit of movement in the morning can make a big difference.
#6 Plan your day.
If you have something to look forward to during the day, you’re more likely to wake up feeling motivated and excited. So take some time the night before to plan out your day. Make a list of things you need to do or want to do and give yourself some time limits. This will help you stay on track and avoid spending too much time on one task. Plus, it’s always satisfying to check things off your list!
#7 Drink lots of water before going to bed.
This may seem like an odd tip, but hear me out. Drinking water before bed helps wake up your body and mind in the morning. It’s like resetting your system and giving yourself a fresh start. Plus, it’s good for you! So if you’re struggling to wake up in the morning, try drinking a glass of water before bed and see if it makes a difference. If nothing else, drinking lots of water before going to bed will definitely encourage you to get out of the bed to go to the bathroom, so you’re up and at ‘em anyways!!
There you have it! Seven tips that will actually help you wake up earlier. Give them a try and see which ones work best for you. And remember, it takes time to change your sleep habits so be patient and give yourself some grace. Small steps will lead to big changes over time. Good luck!
